"The Bike"
Here's a photo of my wheels (and also Hobie the wonder dog who just wants to be part of the blog). If you think biking is easy, strap 75 lbs of dead weight to the back and try it again!

Add your environmental resolution here

As requested (awesome idea Julie - thanks!), people can add their own environmental resolutions here so we can rejoice in the awesomeness together, support one another, LEARN from each other, and (as Julie put it) hold each other accountable! :)

You just have to click on this post to see all of the comments (if anyone knows how to improve on this, let me know) - they won't show up on the main blog page.

Exciting things are happening! We're creating a tsunami of environmental change! :)

  1. My commitment (aside from the chicken thing) is to recycle as much as we possibly can. That means all plastics 1-7; all card- and boxboard, all glass, all styrofoam, CapriSun pouches, scotch tape rolls, foil-lined granola bar wrappers....composting all possible items.

That may not seem like that much--we have curbside recycling, after all--but in order to really recycle all our stuff in the places where I know it can be recycled, we have at least five different places to which we need to take it. That means at least six bins in our back porch, so there is a time/space/effort commitment that fits into the spirit of this project. After all, I'd much rather just throw away the banana peel on my desk right now than have to take it home to compost it.

  2. We have decided to grow a vegetable garden this year. We spent this past weekend building three 8' x 4' raised beds. Now we just need to get some more soil and get our plants going. I'm so excited about this whole process. I'm hoping it gets the kids more interested in eating a variety of vegetables.

  3. I just wanted to come back & say we settled on our resolution... furthering our efforts at recycling. lance is in the process of assembling us a little recycling station (using scrap wood) in our garage. i've printed off the MSU list for their public drop off location (thks julie... why on earth was i in the dark about this place???). just the thought of more thorough plastic recycling has me quiet excited.
